The Youthnet representatives on the
Youth Work Training Board have been involved in discussions regarding the
Youth Work Workforce Development Plan. They have raised a number of concerns with Youthnet about some of the potential implications for Voluntary Youth Sector Employers. As a result, Youthnet has engaged with
LLUK (Lifelong Learning UK) the Sectoral Skills Council responsible for the youth workforce.
A paper on the issues of concern to sub-group members was drafted following this meeting and was submitted to LLUK.
A further seminar was held in June 2009 and the following actions were agreed:
-
LLUK to provide a working paper on the benefits of registration
-
LLUK to set up a project sub-group with Voluntary Sector representation to consider the best methods of collating Voluntary Sector Workforce Development Needs.
-
LLUK to engage with ESA, CCEA and Ofqual to organise a seminar for Voluntary Sector Groups.
-
LLUK to establish a sub-group looking at the potential of developing a bid for government funding to develop youth work training and qualifications.
-
Youthnet to identify 3 reps for both of the project sub-groups.
-
Youthnet to coordinate final comments from the Voluntary Sector on the manifesto to be forwarded to LLUK by the end of August.
Subsequently the Youthnet Workforce Development Sub-Group met and after consideration decided it would be more effective if LLUK related directly to the sub-group in consideration of the two pieces of work around workforce development and training. The sub-group also suggested the dialogue around the manifesto could be more effectively progressed through a meeting with the sub-group and LLUK. The sub-group emphasised again the key area of concern related to registration and the Licence to Practice and have identified this as a key issue.
Youthnet has been tasked to draw up the terms of reference for the work of the sub-group/LLUK meetings. Youthnet are also arranging a seminar involving the National Youth Council for Ireland and NYCVS to discuss development re volunteer accreditation.
